12.17.10Some Other Time CD

SOME OTHER TIME:: Bob Chadwick, Flutes, Robert Boston, Piano.
On this recording, in duet with pianist Robert Boston, Chadwick exploits and expands the art of the duo in performing a selection of jazz standards, alternating with free improvisations. Classically trained, Chadwick has remarkable technical proficiency that he places at the service of a fertile imagination. He and Boston have chosen some lesser-heard compositions well suited to their style of improvisation, gently deconstructing them in places, grooving in others, then shifting into the territory between jazz and contemporary composition. Such a musical vision requires a strong sense of order and Chadwick’s never lets him down. Boston displays sensitivity and invention both as accompanist and soloist." (Peter Westbrook, National Flutist Quarterly, Winter 2010 review)

06.15.09New Video: Shakulute at The Artery

This new video newly up (from Spring 2009) highlights the shakulute in a tune called "Last Concert" composed by bassist, David Craig. My Shakulute was crafted by Monty Levenson, and is a hybrid shakuhachi headjoint married to my alto flute body. Beautiful tones in a full range.

03.14.09"Flutist Bob Chadwick

has carved a niche for himself by virtue of his ability to combine a strong technical sense using his classical training with a very creative approach to world music and improvisation. Chadwick has an earthy yet focused sound on the instrument and grabs at musical ideas as quickly as they enter the room."

Liner Notes from Bruce Dudley's Semblence (available now at CDBaby)

01.20.09Houston Jazz Scene

"Chadwick's playing is especially interesting because he has achieved great technical proficiency, grasping the essence of the more obscure modalities, and has not sacrificed spirit, emotion, soul and swing. He succeeds in using all aspects of music technique as tools, not end-products. This ability has contributed to his being repeatedly voted "Best Jazz Instrumentalist" in the annual Public News Reader's Poll."
